Introduction to Dora and the Lost City of Gold Movie Review by Ms. H
If you saw this movie -- Were you as surprised as I was that Dora and the Lost City of Gold movie turned out to be quite an entertaining action/adventure film. You may be familiar with Dora the Explorer from her toys, dolls, television shows, books and more. However, probably to the delight of many, Dora has branched out to the big screen.
I was skeptical when I found out Dora was going to have her own movie. However, after I watched the movie trailer, I knew I was going to see this film as soon as it was released. Did Dora and the Lost City of Gold disappoint or was the movie a solid winner? Check out my movie review to find out!
Plot of Dora and the Lost City of Gold Movie
The movie had a simple plot which was not difficult to determine. Dora’s goal was to find the lost city of gold which has been her aim for some time. The movie creatively made it clear that Dora’s interest was in the exploration part of the hunt -- rather than the vast amount of treasurers that she could possibly find. A side plot was to find her parents who had ventured out to locate the city of gold on their own. As can be expected, some “bad guys" entered the scene to complicate the matter.
Little known fact about Dora and the Lost City of Gold Movie: Isabela Moner plays the lead character of Dora (age 16) who is close to her own age of 18.
Acting Abilities Displayed in Dora and the Lost City of Gold Movie
To start on a positive note, in my opinion Isabela Moner who played the lead character Dora did a good job. There is one particular scene where she conveys her thoughts about a situaton with her eyes instead of voicing words. To me, this is a clear sign of someone who has studied their craft.
On a less positive note, I think the character who played the role of Dora’s cousin Diego -- Jeffrey Wahlberg was too serious in his scenes. There was a scene where he relaxed and delivered his lines with some degree of lightness but for the most part, I think he could have done an overall better job. The other actors in the movie performed adequately.
Predictability of Dora and the Lost City of Gold Movie
To some degree, there is suspense in this movie, but for the most part, some of the scenarios that took place in the movie were predictable. For example, when the characters got into any sort of danger, you knew all would be well within the next few minutes. That being said, I thought the movie was entertaining in showing how they came up with solutions to the predicaments they fell in (literally). Another plus was the writer/director allowed some of the other characters to display their “smarts" in addition to Dora, the lead character of the movie.
Assessment of Dora and the Lost City of Gold Movie
I found Dora and the Lost City of Gold film to not only be entertaining, but I thought there was a fair amount of action throughout the movie. A minor downside was the logic in the movie where you may find yourself asking exactly how they came up with their solutions and why certain characters would suddenly appear. The geographic locations of some of the scenes especially regarding Dora and her parents may be questioned as well. Additionally, the transition from one type of visual to the other may also be questioned, Spoiler Alert: For example -- a major minus of the movie for me was the inclusion of actual cartoon footage in the movie in addition to the real life actors.
However, all and all, you may find yourself smiling at some of the scenes in this movie. I think even with the perceived dangers they faced, Ithe writer/director managed to keep the movie in the “feel-good” category.
Whether Dora describes herself as an explorer, or a treasure hunter or even something else is up to her or the writer/director. But based on the entertaining action events and scenarios in this movie, I would put her in yet another genre -- an adventurer. And yes, Dora and the Lost City of Gold is a solid winner in my book.
Assessment of Dora and the Lost City of Gold Movie
Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars with 5 stars being the highest, I rate Dora and the Lost City of Gold movie 4 stars.
