Introduction to Spy with a Feminine Take -- Anna Movie Review by Ms. H
When I saw the trailer for the Anna movie, I made a mental note to see it once it was released. My motivation to see the film stems from the action scenes as well as who was performing the action. Of course, I’m sure there were stunt doubles for some of these scenes; however, I was glad to see that the actor shown was a woman who was not in the background -- but was front and center in the action scenes. In fact, the star of the film is model-actor Sasha Luss.
There were other points in the movie as well that made it a must-see movie for me which I will discuss below. Don’t fret -- I will talk about the movie in general terms just in case you plan to see it.
Plot of the Anna Movie
In a nutshell, the focal points of the Anna movie are spies and espionage. You may be familiar with movie scenes where someone is sitting on a park bench pretending to read a newspaper, and another spy either sits next to or walks by him or her and passes along a suitcase, etc. that supposedly is unnoticed by others. While this may still be done in films, the movie Anna takes spying activities at a higher level -- both technological and plot-wise.
Acting Skills Displayed in the Anna Movie
I think for the most part, all the actors played their roles adequately. Even though I was not a fan of Helen Mirren’s accent, she did an ok job as well. Helen Mirren played the part of Olga, a boss.
As I alluded to previously, the main character is model-actor Sasha Luss who had the opportunity to stand out, especially since she has the starring role. In my opinion, she could have displayed more emotion in some of the scenes -- but this may have been the fault of the director, so I will not hold that against her.
Little Known fact about Sasha Luss: Did you know that Sasha Luss appeared in the 2017 movie Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets? She played the part of alien Princess Liho-Minaa.
Realism of Actions in the Anna Movie
Some of the actions in the film Anna were sort of far-fetched including several switcheroos that occur during the movie -- but that is not a problem, since afterall Anna is a movie. That being said, the movie story unfolded in such a way that it was easy to follow and the movie ended at a point when I think it should have.
Assessment of the Anna Movie
I’ve seen several action movies with women at the forefront. I think the various action scenes were not overdone and did not seem repetitive to me as in other movies such as in Atomic Blonde. I also like the fact that she did not de-feminize herself in order to be perceived as a woman of strength in the movie Anna.
While I do not condone violence of any kind, I enjoyed seeing a woman as the action star of the Anna movie. If you are a fan of action/adventure/suspense films, you may want to check out the movie Anna for yourself.
Rating of the Anna Movie
Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars with 5 stars being the highest, I rate the movie Anna 5 stars.
