Introduction to The Girl in the Orange Dress Movie Review by Ms. H
The Girl in the Orange Dress movie caught my attention mainly because i had not seen any publicity, press conferences, guest appearances, etc. of the movie or its stars. The movie title just seemed to appear on the movie listings. It was as if this movie materialized out of nowhere. Of course, I’m sure a lot of work went into this movie; however, I think the publicity for The Girl in the Orange Dress was little to none.
Movie Genre of The Girl in the Orange Dress
Based on the title -- The Girl in the Orange Dress -- you probably have already decided this movie will be a romantic comedy -- which it was -- sort of. As I watched the events of the movie unfold, I felt as if the focus was getting the story told -- rather than making sure the movie was humorous.
Subtitles in The Girl in the Orange Dress Movie
If you plan to watch this movie which has a limited release, I will caution you that it has subtitles -- unless this is fine with you. I usually refrain from watching these type movies, but decided to watch anyway. After awhile as you watch the movie, the subtitles just seem to be part of the viewing screen rather than a distraction.
However, the problem I had with the subtitles is that sometimes the actors would speak English, which I understood -- however, sometimes the verbal dialogue was mixed with both English and a foreign language. A plus for the movie is the subtitles consistently appeared throughout the movie, even if the actors (or voice actors) seemingly spoke in partial English.
Plot of The Girl in the Orange Dress Movie
I don’t think I will be spoiling the movie if I revealed that it is about a celebrity and his excited fans. Conflict develops when one of the stars of the movie, Jessy Mendiola's character happened to meet this celebrity, stayed with him, and subsequently tried to sneak out of the room as well as from all the publicity.
Dilemmas in The Girl in the Orange Dress Movie
The celebrity (played by Jericho Rosales), and Jessy Mendiola's characters find themselves in different situations that were supposed to be funny -- but unfortunately were not for me. The major dilemma was to find out who the girl in the orange dress was -- then to decide how she correlated with the celebrity. To visualize this happening, cameras would cut to the fans who seemed to be following the story of the girl in the orange dress.
To make matters worse, the head of a fan club for the celebrity aspired strongly to meet him. Instead Jessy Mendiola's character, who happened to be the best friend -- meets him. The conflict between the two was short lived and before long all was well. It's surprising to me that Jesse Mendiola's character did not seem to know who this particular celebrity was initially.
Simple Solutions Ignored in The Girl in the Orange Dress Movie
There were several incidents that lended itself for this character to leave if she really wanted to. Even with the paparazzi around, she could simply walk past them to get home -- especially since she was already all over the news and social media.
Also with the many online stores-- instead of taking clothes from hotel guests that didn’t belong to her in an effort to hide from the media -- she simply could have stayed, ordered an outfit online and then left the hotel in different attire. Or even better, she could simply ask to borrow a coat from someone that would cover up the orange dress she was wearing and left the building.
Of course, if she did any of these sensible actions or any others not mentioned above, the movie would not been made in the first place.

Assessment of The Girl in the Orange Dress Movie
I saw The GIrl in the Orange Dress at the movies on one of the smaller screens. There was no one else watching it. Either the movie was that bad or it was a slow movie day. I will choose that the movie was not that good and maybe the word spread so potential movie-goers stayed away.
In my opinion, there was no funny lines or situations in The Girl in the Orange Dress. It just seemed to be a movie where characters did not use basic common sense to find solutions. On a positive note, I did like the musical selection (We or Us) by Moira Dela Torres which played during parts of the movie. In fact the song will earn The Girl in the Orange Dress movie an extra ½ point.
Rating of The Girl in the Orange Dress Movie
Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars with 5 stars being the highest, I rate The GIrl in the Orange Dress 1 ½ stars.
