Introduction to the Widows Movie Review by Ms. H

The movie previews for Widows skillfully did not divulge the twists and turns that are in the actual movie. From the previews, you may think the film is about a group of women who are planning some type of heist. However, once you view the complete movie, you will learn that Widows is about a lot more with plenty of suspense included. Widows is rated R and should not be viewed by anyone under the age of 17 unless accompanied by a parent or an adult guardian.

Twists and Turns in the Widows Movie

As I alluded to earlier, this movie has twists and turns -- that you may or may not expect.  No spoilers here. However, I would like to mention that during the first half of the movie, you should pay attention to all of the characters and their plights because their interactions will have a bearing on the events that happen during the movie.

I would also add that you should not be underwhelmed by the initial events in the movie.  Widows is a film I would describe as a “wait for it” type movie. It may seem to start slow, but towards the middle and the end, the movie gets more interesting.

Acting Skills Displayed in the Widows Movie

There are quite a few “big name actors” in this movie including Viola Davis, Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, Michelle Rodriguez, Daniel Kaluuya and a few others. These actors, no doubt, raised the watchability of the movie Widows, even though there are, of course, other movies with lesser known actors that are worth watching as well. WIth this calibre of actors, even if the movie storyline was poor, I think their acting skills could help the film get a passable rating.

Assessment of the Widows Movie

I was not a fan of the dark lighting in this movie as well as some of the extreme facial closeups at the beginning of the film -- but I guess the director used these effects to help set the tone of the movie. Also, some of the acts in this movie were ultra-violent, especially those displayed by the actor Daniel Kaluuya which I was not a fan of. During the movie, I especially did not like hearing a certain word uttered -- which I think should have been left out of the movie. This will cost the movie a ½ rating star.

Overall, I think the movie was well-crafted (sans the violent acts) and will not be a waste of your time and money if you see it at the movie theaters. Widows will probably keep your interest throughout as you follow the plot from the beginning to the end.

Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars with 5 stars being the highest, I rate the Widows movie 2 ½ stars.
