Introduction to the Assassination Nation Movie Review by Ms. H
I was under the impression that Assassination Nation would be similar to the movie Suicide Squad, but after watching this movie for a few minutes I found that it is far from being a comic book based movie. I decided to continue watching the movie anyway -- mainly because I was curious how the title of the movie, Assassination Nation, tied in with the movie.
Synopsis of the Assassination Nation Movie
Since the movie does not start with a clear storyline, you may have to watch a few scenes of Assassination Nation before you figure out what’s happening. As the movie begins -- it appears to be some sort of documentary -- complete with one of the actors narrating the scenes. As the storyline progresses, the narration stops to a certain degree as the actions in the movie continue.
Violence in the Assassination Nation Movie
If you plan to see the Assassination Nation movie, I would like to caution you that there is an abundance of violence and adult content. Additionally, there are many gruesome scenes that may be disturbing to watch.
I think the director went to the extreme because he was more than likely trying to get his point across or to let the audience see how negative actions can spiral completely out of control -- as it did in the Assassination Nation movie.
Of course, this is a movie, and there are exaggerations, but it is shot realistically so much so that as you watch the movie, you may start thinking how all the chaos, violence and mayhem could have been prevented or eliminated -- instead of escalating as it did.
Pros of the Assassination Nation Movie
As blatant as the violent scenes were in the movie, I believe the writer was trying to communicate a message to the audience. I won’t divulge the message which could differ from individual to individual, but I think a pro of the movie was if you see this movie, you may walk away thinking about something -- whether it's how easily events can quickly get out of control or any other thoughts you may have after seeing the Assassination Nation movie.
Spoiler Alert: By the way, there is a twist at the end of the movie on who exposed all the "secrets" that transpired -- which may or may not surprise you.
Cons of the Assassination Nation Movie
During the movie, there are a few scenes where a group of teenage girls walk in unison in slow motion. I am not a fan of this type visual because it appears to be filler material instead of actions needed to move the story along.
As I alluded to earlier, violence dominates this movie, almost to the point of it being unwatchable in some parts. If you see the movie, it may help to remember that all the red coloring is probably ketchup, food coloring or something other than what it looks like because there is a sizable amount shown towards the middle and end of the Assassination Nation movie.
It goes without saying that I did not like the violence or vigilante actions of the characters in the movie. That being said, I think the writer was trying to get a message across -- maybe by going to the extreme. Whenever there is a break-down of procedures etc., regardless of how drastic, I’m sure there are other ways to solve what was happening instead of what was done in this movie.
Additionally, during the movie, only one parent seemed concerned or involved with what their children was going through which I believe was a negative. The other parents simply kicked the other teenager out of their home -- which I also think is a big fail as well as a breakdown in communications. Who knows? Maybe the adults could have banned together to prevent the chaos and destruction that occurred in the movie.
Assessment of the Assassination Nation Movie
If you see Assassination Nation, I believe you will agree with me that you probably have not seen a movie quite like this one before -- which could either be a good or bad thing -- depending on your viewpoint. However, I think you will also agree that there had to be a better way to resolve what was going on instead of the series of violent and otherwise catastrophic events that occurred in the Assassination Nation movie.
Rating of the Assassination Nation Movie
Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars with 5 stars being the highest, I rate Assassination Nation 2 3/4 stars.
