Introduction to Angelina Jolie’s Those Who Wish Me Dead Movie

 

After Angelina Jolie’s long hiatus from movies, you may be curious if her latest film, Those Who Wish Me Dead was worth the wait. Even more importantly you may wonder exactly what the movie is all about and if you should watch it.  

 

As a prelude, there are a few spoilers in my movie review of Those Who Wish Me Dead, so if you plan to watch the film, either in the theater or on HBO Max, you may want to postpone checking out my review until you have seen the movie. By the way I watched the movie on HBO Max.

 

With that being said, I will answer the above inquiries and more in my movie review of Angelina Jolie’s film, Those Who Wish Me Dead.

 

Plot of Those Who Wish Me Dead Movie

 

First and foremost, the main plot does not center around Angelina Jolie’s character.  Instead it is about criminals destroying people who provided their analysis of forensic data in a criminal case.The forensic researchers are unfortunately eliminated one by one in addition to any witnesses the criminals encountered along the way.  

 

You may think initially that Angelina Jolie’s character is one of the researchers slated to be eliminated by the criminals. However, she is not. Instead, her backstory involves a subplot where as a firefighter she made a bad weather-related decision while fighting a huge fire. 

 

 

Unrealistic Events in Those Who Wish Me Dead Movie

 

The Those Who Wish Me Dead movie is based upon a novel by the same name so all the events are made up. This may be the case, but even a novel should have some remnant of realism -- which for the most part, it did not. Additionally, there were lots of holes in the movie plots as well.

 

Spoiler alerts:  Some  examples of disconnects to reality in the movie are:

 

--The criminals located the destination of the father and the son, as well as the exact time they would be on the road in order to set their traps. The movie did not show that the victims’ car had a tracking device attached to it.  

 

 

--A pregnant woman was able to fight off the criminals. They all survived the fight in this particular movie scene; however, unexplainably the criminals did not pursue the woman. 

 

--Angelina Jolie’s character was (unfortunately) punched in the face hard numerous times and there were no major signs of injuries to her face afterwards -- i.e. black eyes, swollen face,etc.

 

--The one remaining criminal walked toward the little boy while turning his back on Angelina Jolie’s character who he had just beaten up, but we all knew she would rise up and attack him from behind.

 

There are other unrealistic incidences, however, I will stop here.

 

Additionally, I was not a fan of a minor using profane language during the movie with the little boy singing a profanity-laced song in the film with the actress and mother, Angelina Jolie singing along.

 

 

Highlights of Those Who Wish Me Dead Movie

 

In my opinion, the high points of the movie dealt with the action scene visuals of the actress Angelina Jolie. I correlated part of her action scenes back to the iconic movie she starred in a while back, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. She was even wearing an outfit similar to what the video game character Lara Croft would wear. 

 

The two Tomb Raider incidents occurred when she jumped down the rope from the house and the other time was when she slid down a hill while holding a hatchet. You may see the same connection between the actress and the video game character Lara Croft: Tomb Raider if you watch the movie, Those Who Wish Me Dead.

 

Assessment of Those Who Wish Me Dead Movie

 

To cut to the chase, Angelina Jolie’s movie, Those Who Wish Me Dead was not worth the wait. You may want to see this film out of curiosity, but you may not enjoy watching it. 

 

For clarity and to avoid being a “clickbait” title, the film should have been titled Those Who Wish Them Dead.  Since Angelina Jolie is the A-List actor in the movie, you are led to believe by the title, Those Who Wish Me Dead, that she would be the main character which she was not.

 

The main characters, in my opinion, were the two criminals who orchestrated and carried out the heinous crimes shown in the movie.  

 

The Those Who Wish Me Dead movie could have been improved by the story line revolving around either the criminals and these characters’ victims or the plight of Angelina Jolie’s actions after making the wrong decision during a huge fire -- not both.

 

The good news is that this is a film based on a novel so the movie is not to be taken seriously. 

 

After watching this movie, you may come to the same conclusion that I did, which is the precious time we spent watching the Those Who Wish Me Dead film -- is time that you and I will never get back.

Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars with 5 stars being the highest, I rate the Those Wish Me Dad movie, 1 ½ stars.
