Adventure Game Grim Fandango
Renowned video game designer, Tim Schafer turned to the crowd for funding for his new adventure game instead of approaching the big game publishers.
The result? In less than 24 hours, he raised in excess of $1 million in pledges when fans were alerted via Facebook and Twitter about the project.
Tim Schafer founded Double Fine in 2000. Even though he worked on games such as Brutal Legend for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, his fans were constantly asking him to return to the adventure-game genre.
Thanks to the support from fans, they will now have their wish.
According to Wanda Meloni, analyst at M2 Research, "I think there is a growing pent-up demand for really good creatively designed games that aren't coming out of the big publishers." -- hence the outpour of support for the new adventure game.
Double Fine will continue to accept pledges until March 13, 2012.
The new adventure game is scheduled for release in October, 2012.
