Square Enix has announced Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII as the new entry in the Final Fantasy series.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be the final game in the Final Fantasy trilogy. The setting of the game includes four large islands in the world of Novus Partas, with Lightning as the heroine.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
During gameplay, you will control Lightning as she works to find a way to save the world from extinction. Choices of weapons include shields and swords of various sizes. Additionally you will be able to customize her attire.
The game will keep its Paradigm Shift combat system, and will let you move Lightning around the battlefield as well as swap weapons simultaneously.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be playable on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles. The game will be released in 2013, with no specific date announced at press time.
