Introduction to the Destroyer Movie Review by Ms. H

Happy New Year one and all!  I would like to start the New Year on a positive note by reviewing a movie that I consider a “good movie” -- even though it has a limited release in movie theaters.  The movie I’m referring to is Destroyer, starring Nicole Kidman which may or may not be showing in your area. I will be giving a general movie review, because I do not want to spoil the Destroyer movie just in case you plan to  see it ether in the movie theaters or elsewhere. Destroyer is rated R for Restricted, and should not be seen by anyone under 17 years of age unless accompanied by parents or guardians.

Events in the Destroyer Movie

Any time a writer/director does something out of the ordinary to show events, scenarios, etc. that happened in a story -- I’m a total fan. There are plenty of situations in this movie where you have to pay close attention in order to know exactly what’s going on. Additionally, there is an element of action, suspense as well as drama since Destroyer is sort of a family as well as a police/detective movie.  I did not approve of all the profanity in Destroyer, including those mouthed by the actor who was playing a 16 year old teenager -- but had to overlook this in order to concentrate on what was happening in the movie.

Nicole Kidman -  Star of the Destroyer Movie

Nicole Kidman, as an actor, has been front and center in many of her movies -- so being the star of the movie was not a reach for her.  My opinion is she played her character realistically -- including interactions she had with other actors in the movie. To her credit, I think she played the character Erin Bell in a way where you may think that this person actually existed.

Assessment of the Destroyer Movie

If you watch the Destroyer movie, try not to miss any parts of it or you may get lost in the story, or you may have to try to figure out what’s going on without the information that is given during the movie.  The movie is told in a flashback format which goes back and forth -- so if you miss one of the flashback scenes (depending on the scene of course) you may not be able to quite understand what’s going on in the movie or it may take you awhile to do so. By the way, there are symbolism actions going on at the end of the movie.  You will know what I’m talking about if you see the movie.

I give kudos to the writer, the director and especially the actor, Nicole Kidman who made this character and movie come to life.  Once the Destroyer movie is over, you may have your own opinions about the type character she portrayed -- but you probably will agree with me that Nicole Kidman played this character well in a movie that will probably keep your interest throughout.

Rating of the Destroyer Movie

Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars with 5 stars being the highest, I rate Destroyer 5 stars.
