Introduction to the Incredibles 2 Movie Review by Ms. H
I was on the fence about seeing this movie. I had seen the previews, and even though the movie looked promising,I did not see Incredibles 1 and was not sure if the two were connected. What convinced me to see the movie was (1) I would be using my moviepass which meant that I was seeing the movie practically free and (2) I noticed that quite a few people were choosing to see this movie at the ticket window -- adults and children alike. Was this movie worth my time and attention? Read on to find out.
Premise of the Incredibles 2 Movie
I think the idea of previews and movie trailers is to give you just a glimpse of what the movie may be about. This is exactly what was done for the Incredibles 2 movie. From looking at the preview, I was under the impression that the wife was going to take on a gigantic mission while her husband and children stayed home.
However, the trailer was misleading in that not only did Elastic Girl, better known as Mrs. Incredible, fight crime in the city, but other members of her family later joined which included her husband, her son, her daughter and her even her baby. By the way, if you see this movie, I must say the baby stole the show.
Cartoon Story of the Incredibles 2 Movie
Incredibles 2 is first and foremost a cartoon movie. So expect to see cartoonish drawn characters in the scenes. The story line involves an initial law against superheroes in the city; even though I’m not sure why that would be the case. Maybe the authorities thought they would not use their superpowers for the good of mankind.
Regarding the single mission carried out by Mrs. Incredible -- I must say it was action packed and may have you sitting on the edge of your seat. By the way, there was a reason she was chosen over her husband to take on this mission. However, regardless of who started off in battles, during the movie, it looks like everyone featured had their chance also to be featured in the action scenes.
Subplot of the Incredibles 2 Movie
Apparently there is a villain that has the ability to make people become oblivious to their surroundings including what is going on around them. During this time, they may also change and act in ways that are completely opposite of how they should behave. Add to this the possibility of a mole in the movie -- and you will have sort of a suspenseful cartoon movie.
It all Comes Together in the Incredibles 2 Movie
As with most PG movies, everything seemed to come together in the end -- regardless of the problems the Incredibles family were faced with. This is when the whole family somehow got to engage in a confrontation battle at one time or another. In the midst of the fights, was Jack Jack, the infant, who believe it or not also had superhuman powers such as being able to disappear through walls, turning into fire, etc. If the movie executives decide to name the comic relief of this comedy, I would repeat what I said earlier that the baby infant stole the show. Spoiler alert: One of the powers I was not too fond of was the baby’s abilities to have clones which seemed really odd to me -- even if this is a cartoon movie.
Assessment of the Incredibles 2 Movie
There was plenty of action in the Incredibles 2 movie -- so much so that it seemed to get repetitive after a while. Also, in my opinion, the storyline veered from what the intended plot was going to be according to the trailer. Instead of Mrs. Incredibles better known as the Elastic Girl being the main action hero of the movie, it seemed as if everyone in the family got a chance to be in the limelight. This is not a problem, but I think because the story was trying to be politically correct, taking into consideration the roles of the other cartoon characters -- the movie ended up being a lengthy one. Also, I was not a fan of some of the actors who did voice acting in the movie appearing at the beginning telling me to enjoy the movie. I think this was unnecessary and added to the length of the movie.
Regarding the question of whether or not Incredibles 2 was worth my attention, I do not think I would pay money to see it, but with moviepass, it would say it wasn't a waste of time.
Late Breaking News: I just found out that future installments of Incredibles 2 may show a seizure warning. If you are prone to seizures you may want to skip this movie for your own safety and the safety of others.
Rating of Incredibles 2 Movie
Based on a rating of 1 to 5 stars, with 5 stars being the best, I rate the Incredibles 2 movie 2 ¾ stars.
