Introduction to Everything Everywhere All At Once Movie

The movie Everything Everywhere All At Once is currently streaming on various services and also may be showing at your local theaters. I was curious about this movie, especially when someone alluded to the effect  -- “You all must see this movie!”

I intentionally did not watch the movie trailer or view the synopsis of the Everything Everywhere All At Once film. The reason?  I wanted to discover what the movie was about without any undue influences.

I decided to watch the Everything Everywhere All At Once movie on Amazon Prime Video – for a price. Unfortunately the movie Everything Everywhere All at Once is not free to watch. You can pay to watch it on a streaming service or it may also be playing at your local theaters as I alluded to above.

Was it worth my time and money to watch the film, Everything Everywhere All at Once? Should you watch it? Check out my movie review of Everything Everywhere All at Once to find out.

Synopsis of Everything Everywhere All At Once Movie

The movie, Everything Everywhere All At Once centers around a wife and husband, played by Michelle Yeoh as Evelyn Quan Wang and Ke Huy Quan as Waymond Wang respectively who have a daughter played by Stephanie Hsu as dual characters Joy Want and JobuTapaki.

The scenarios focus on the family as they battle (literally) with the IRS over taxes on their laundromat business. The main protagonist is the IRS tax agent played by Jamie Lee Curtis as Deirdre Beaubeirdreie.

The story is not simply about the characters’  tax struggles but expands to include imaginative visions of what the mother’s life could have been like if she had taken another path in her life. These visions are achieved by the film using the concept of “multiverses’ or “alphaverses”  where characters appear; however, in reality, they are not who they seem to be -- even though they look to be the exact, same person.

My First Impression of Everything Everywhere All At Once Movie

Have you ever seen a collage of different pictures plastered together on a large frame?  Sometimes, the pictures may seem disjointed and other times they may appear to relate to the others.

If you look at the picture collage long enough, you may begin to see elements that join them all together.  Maybe it is the white border of the frame. Or maybe the pictures have the same color scheme or the pictures may seem to be coordinated for other reasons.

After awhile, you may find yourself enjoying looking at the pictures in the collage, now that you can see their relationships with the others within the confines of the picture frame.

The above analogy is how I describe my take on the events in the movie Everything Everywhere All at Once. As I watched the storyline unfold, at first it seemed to me that the actions in the movie were chaotic, disjointed and sometimes difficult to follow.

However, as I watched follow-on actions in the movie, Everything Everywhere All At Once, I began to not only realize, but also to appreciate the message the film was attempting to portray. Bottom line is this film may have to grow on you.

Inconsistencies in Everything Everywhere All At Once Movie

I noticed quite a few inconsensitens in the movie Everything Everywhere All at Once.  To not spoil the movie for you, I will point out that generally some characters seem to just appear in the movie out of nowhere. For example, in one instance the character may be a customer in the laundromat, and the next, this same character is included in the barrage of enemies battling the main character.

Additionally and in my opinion, the depiction of the command center was poorly done, with amatueurish-looking props, including crudelly-lighted sunglasses and other substandard-looking technical equipment.

Creativity in the Everything Everywhere All At Once Movie

It is common knowledge that all movie scenarios have already been told in one way or another. It appears as if the writers of the Everything Everywhere All At Once movie tried to debunk this notion.

They accomplished this by the use of multiverses, and having the characters seemingly appear as someone else other than themselves at different locations. Some characters also appear as inanimate objects. I applaud the writers for creating this scene since I did not expect these depictions in the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Everything Everywhere All At Once Movie Takes  the Scenic Route

In my opinion, the writers had a message they wanted to share with the viewing audiences, but instead of taking a more direct route, they took the long way around. After watching the Everything Everywhere All At Once movie, you may understand why I made this observation.

Assessment of Everything Everywhere All At Once

As mentioned above, the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once will cost you not only your time, but your money as well. That being said, if you allot time and money to watch the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once, I think it may not be a waste.

I found myself latently enjoying the Everything Everywhere All At Once movie especially when the storyline disclosed through the actions of the characters the inspiring messages it was trying to convey.

But don’t just take my word for it. Feel free to check out the movie, Everything Everywhere All At Once and come to your own conclusion. You may find yourself also enjoying the movie and watching to see what happens next with the Wang family. You may also like watching some of the action scenes in the Everything Everywhere All at Once movie as well.
