Introduction to Disney Plus Hollywood Stargirl Movie Review  

 

I recently checked out movies that are available on Disney Plus streaming service. The film, Hollywood Stargirl caught my eye for some reason, so I decided to watch it.

Synopsis of Disney Plus Hollywood Stargirl Movie

 

The main character of the Disney Plus Hollywood Stargirl film and her mother have moved to Los Angeles, California for her mother’s new job. Grace VanderWaal as the daughter, was at first reluctant to move, but her outlook changed quickly once she met several people when their move was complete. 

 

In addition to the move, Disney Plus Hollywood Stargirl film involves Grace VanderWaal’s character's ambition to become a singer. Apparently she was at the right place at the right time because she meets her romantic interest in the movie, Elijah Richardson as Evan who was in the process of making a movie along with his brother, actor Tyrel Jackson Williams as Terrell. She was of course recruited to star and sing in the developing movie project.

 

Human Interest Focus in the Disney Pus Hollywood Stargirl Movie

 

Disney Plus Hollywood Stargirl movie is focused on interrelationships between characters. In this film, the interactions are mostly between the main character’s romantic interest and their partnerships in making a movie.  Also included are her relationships with who appears to be a grumpy neighbor -- Judd Hirsh who plays the part of Mr. Mitchell and another character who was known simply as “table six”  in the restaurant – Urma Thurman as Roxanne Martel.

 

 

Chemistry between the Main Characters in Disney Plus Hollywood Stargirl Movie 

 

If you watch the Disney Plus film, Hollywood Stargirl, you may come to the same conclusion I did in that the romantic connection between Grace VanderWaal and Elijah Richardson's characters are non-existent. In my opinion, they were more like best friends instead of being romantically involved. 

 

However, the lack of chemistry between these two characters did not ruin the Disney Plus movie, Hollywood Stargirl. The safety net that kept the movie afloat was the role of Urma Thurman as Roxanne Martel who was once a great singer in the 1990’s but seemed to have fallen on hard times – or did she? You will know why I’m asking this question if you watch the complete Disney Plus movie, Hollywood Stargirl.

 

 

Urma Thurman’s character makes regular visits to the restaurant where amatuer talent sings to a small crowd. However, there is a twist that you will discover in the movie involving Urma Thurman's character back-story where circumstances are not what they seem to be.

Speaking of Urma Thurman, you may be familiar with her as an award winning actor from several action movies, namely the Kill Bill film franchise as well as from some romantic comedies, i.e., My Super Ex-Girlfriend and many  others. It took awhile for me to recognize her in this role, because I guess I expected her to have a starring role in a movie instead of playing the part of a supporting character.

 

That being said, I think Urma Thurman did justice to her character who blended in well with the storyline of the Disney Plus Hollywood Stargirl movie.

 

Realism in Disney Plus Hollywood Stargirl Movie 

 

There is realism in the film, including how someone can aspire to accomplish their goals and who finally reaches them. 

 

Spoiler Alert: However, on the flip side there are also unrealistic moments. For example, during the movie storyline, the mother made a decision not to relocate from Los Angeles, CA to another location after she lost her job. In reality, I think the mother would have bit the bullet and made another move, regardless of the friends her daughter had made in the Los Angeles, California location – especially since she seemed to have landed a firm job offer elsewhere.

 

Assessment of Disney Plus Hollywood Stargirl Movie

 

I believe the Disney Plus Hollywood Stargirl movie is one that is relaxing to watch. Since Disney Plus Hollywood Stargirl film is primarily an human interest story, there are no high speed hases, loud bombs, deafening explosions or even angry argumental moments.

 

So if you want  to sit back, relax and watch a Disney movie, I recommend you check out Disney Plus Hollywood StargIrl. The movie starts off on a positive note and concludes with one, including a jovial song with characters dancing and singing happily on a beach.

 

In other words, the Disney Plus Hollywood Stargirl movie ends on a positive note which may also resonate with you as well.
