Introduction to Tyler Perry A Jazzman’s Blues Netflix Movie Review
When I watched Tyler Perry A Jazzman’s Blues Netflix movie a few days ago, this film was ranked number 3 in movies for that particular week. I checked recently, and Tyler Perry A Jazzman’s Blues has the same ranking.
Suffice it to say, I believe Tyler Perry A Jazzman's Blues Netflix movie will not move up to the number 1 spot, especially with other more entertaining type movies I’m sure that are waiting in the wings at Netflix.
Why no movement upwards in rankings? Was Tyler Perry A Jazzman’s Blues movie good or bad? More importantly, should you watch Tyler Perry A Jazzman's Blues Netflix movie?

Plot of Tyler Perry A Jazzman’s Blues Netflix Movie
At first glance, Tyler Perry's A Jazzman's Blues Netflix movie seems to be about two young people who are romantically involved with each other. The timeline starts in the year 1937. The actors are Joshua Boone as Bayou and Solea Pfeiffer as Leanne. However,Tyler Perry A Jazzman’s Blues Netfflix movie is more than a romantic period film.
As the story progresses, the audience finds out that Leanne played by Solea Pfeiffer has been persuaded by her mother to pretend to be some other race than her own. In fact, in Tyler Perry A Jazzman’s Blues Netflix movie, Solea Pfeiffer’s character’s mother seems to be a social climber of sorts.
Following this social climber storyline, Sophia Pfeiffer’s character marries into a wealthy caucasian family as she continues to be someone who she is not. In the meantime, Joshua Boone and Sofia Pfeiffer’s characters continue to sneak around to see each other, which led eventually to him being run out of town when it was believed that Joshua Boone’s character was seeing Solea Pfeiffer’s character who is identifying herself as caucasian.
In my opinion, the sad part of this storyline is that even though she is now married, Joshua Boone and Sofia Pfeiffer’s characters continued to seemingly run after each other, when she was legally not available since she is now married.
The backstory of Tyler Perry A Jazzman’s Blues Netflix movie, is the rivalry between two siblings whose father seems to favor one over the other. The least favorite one is a singer (Joshua Boone’s character) who is recognized and promoted by his brother's agent. To add to the problem, the brother becomes a drug addict and is shown in the movie falling down on stage while his brother who is the headliner of the show sings. Fortunately, Joshua Boone’s character took action to help his sibling.
To make a long story short, towards the end of Tyler Perry A Jazzman’s Blues Netflix movie, Joshua Boone’s character decides to return to the town he was run out of previously. He is captured and destroyed by his enemies.
Realism of Tyler Perry A Jazzman’s Blues Netflix Movie
I think Tyler Perry’s movies sometimes are about stories that he seems to make up on a whim. The story starts with an elderly woman marching her way into the sheriff’s office to insist that a murder that happned more than 40 years ago be investigated.
Looking back on the movie, an investigation never really happened. The sheriff began to read a group of old letters the elderly woman gave him. The story of A Jazzman's Blues is based on the contents of the letters.
In reality, the sheriff probably would have disposed of the letters as soon as the woman left the room, rather than take the time to read them all. However, to make the movie work, he unrealistically took the time to read through the letters.
I think Tyler Perry may have lost his train of thought in Tyler Perry A Jazzman’s Blues, because there was no investigation to be done. The old letters were a recap of actons that happened in the past, which by the way revealed exacly who the murderers were – so there was no investigation needed -- unless to cofirm the ontents of the letter -- which was not done.
A Reveal in Tyler Perry A Jazzman’s Blues Netflix Movie
If you watch Tyler Perry A Jazzman’s Blues Netflix movie from beginning to end, you will find out that there is a question of who is the father of the son that was born. Just in case you did not know, during their many meetings, a son was born – probably unknown to Joshua Boone’s character at the time.
During the movie, you may think that the son was Sofia Pfeiffer’s character and her husband's. However, you may find out something differently if you listen closely to Solea Pfeiffer character's words as she talks to Joshua Boone’s character before he was murdered.
Assessment of Tyler Perry A Jazzman’s Blues Netflix Movie
Tyler Perry is not usually known for writing period films which is the genre of film to describe A Jazzman’s Blues. As I watched the movie, some parts reminded me of the classic Diana Ross film, Lady Sings the Blues; however, of course, the former is leagues ahead of Tyler Perry'A Jazzman Blues Netflix movie. You may see some similarities between the two movies as well, beginning with the title – Lady SIngs the Blues and A Jazzman’s Blues.
In my opinion, with a run time of 2 hours and 7 minutes, Tyler Perry A Jazzman’s Blues Netflix film is overly long. There were unnecessary repetitive parts in the movie, for example the main character's mother opening up a nightclub and singing as a headliner. I think some of the singing parts could have been shortened or omitted so the story itself could be made tighter without all the fluff including some of the singing.
With the above being said, I think A Jazzman’s Blues Netflix movie is an ok movie to watch - which could explain why it’s ranking is currently staying the same.
if you are not a Tyler Perry fan or not a fan of his movies, you may want to skip Tyler Perry A Jazzman’s Blues Netflix movie. As for me, I know I will not be watching Tyler Perry A Jazzman's Blues Netflix movie again anytime soon.
